If this office were located in a large city, the search for a hygienist team member would not be a a problem at all. Busy, happy dental office that values each team member and has provided all of the high tech equipment needed to do a great job offering a full time position (four days a week) that can pay in the $100,000 range is not a hard sell. We are not looking for someone who sees being a hygienist as just a J-O-B.
We want that special person looking for a “hygiene home”. Someone who wants and gives the support of other team members and truly values the patient relationship. Community, a word that can bring up images of happy people, shared values, and mutual respect, children playing and laughing together, white picket fences, neighbors waving to one another.
In short, a true home, a place where you can let your guard down because your in a familiar place. A place where the cashier is a patient and friend, The bank teller will remind you of her upcoming appointment next Wednesday , and nearly all of the mothers sipping coffee at the local coffee shop are patients.
When the door bell Rings on Halloween night, you know who the little Princess is behind the mask by here voice and she has learned that your door is the one that gives out candy and a new tooth brush.
A place where the ugly troubles of the big cities is only a passing distant thought. Prince of Wales Island is such a community. Small town life where you wave to nearly every passing car because you know the driver personally. You know their children, their story, and you genuinely like them.
About This Community
This community is world class in many of the recreational activities. fishing, boating, and kayaking are all popular pastimes. With several fishing lodges throughout the island, the word is out about our massive ocean caught king salmon, steelhead streams, Trout lakes, etc.
Year round fishing is only minutes from your door. Hunting is more a lifestyle here than a sport. Camping, Whale watching, Bird watching, Boating are all very popular activities.Like the fishing, kayaking is world class with picturesque fjords, rocky coastal bays, and sandy beaches to explore. Seeing whales, sea Otters, eagles, seals and sea Lions all on the same day is not out of the question. We live in a true natural wonderland and live in the heart of the Tongans National Forest.
When folks think “Alaska”, they often in-vision arctic cold ,open tundra, icebergs, etc.
Southeast Alaska is jokingly called the “banana belt”. this is because the weather is so very different from the rest of the state. Think massive forests filled with green trees, streams, beautiful rugged coasts, eagles, whales, etc. We do get snow here but being that all of the small towns are located on the coast, the snow generally lasts for a few days at a time. Average winter temperature is in the 30’s. Prince of Wales is part of a Temperate rain forest ecosystem. We get all four seasons here and we are so much farther south that our Winters are not dark. The Sun comes up every Winter day here.

Prince of Wales Island is the third largest island in the U.S.A. with a rural sized population and hundreds of miles of road to explore. With over 2,200 square miles, it does not have an island feel.
The City of Craig is the largest town with a population of 1,400. Island population reported to be 6,000 residence. Commercial fishing, and Logging, are mainstays here with a sizable retirement population. Both outdoor and indoor jobs for a spouse can readily be found.
While we offer a wonderful rural lifestyle, the shops and restaurants of Seattle can easily be reached through one of the many daily flights departing the island.
